Located in the center of Mandalay Bay’s casino floor, eyecandy sound lounge & bar is a contemporary twist on the typical Las Vegas lounge, featuring an inviting atmosphere with an ever-changing landscape enabled by Philips LED lighting.

To create the unique vibe in the lounge, lighting designer Jon Champelli of shop12 design wanted to accentuate various areas with color-changing effects. He created four glowing “Party Pods” – a circular seating area that gives patrons the ultimate lighting control. He chose Philips iColor Cove® MX Powercore, a high-intensity LED light fixture that directly accepts line voltage, to illuminate the cast-resin pods. The compact fixtures are built directly into the bottoms of the pods, which are constructed of a translucent 3form resin.Above, Philips iColor® MR g2, a color-changing LED lamp, is affixed on a circle track that drenches the sheer fabric encasing the pod in dynamic colorful light. During the lounge’s off-hours the lighting is controlled to change slowly and subtly, however during operation these elements can be controlled by the guests – via a custom touch-screen – allowing patrons to have an interactive and unique experience.

iW® Profile g2 – a low-profile linear fixture that provides variable color temperature (from 3000 – 6500 Kelvin) and brightness control – is used to light the bottle display shelves on the outer bar wall. The fixtures are programmed to cycle through several scenes that illuminate the bottles in various color temperatures.

All the Philips fixtures are controlled via Light System Manager, a hardware and software solution that facilitates the management, authoring, and control of show effects. Light System Manager allows for the light shows to be stored and triggered across multiple fixture installations, controlling up to 10,000 unique addresses.

“LED sources were the ideal solution for all of these design elements. Each area was difficult to access, so a long lifetime and reliability were critical,” said Jon Champelli. “All of the areas demand a dynamic light source, either color-changing or color temperature control, and Philips LED solutions were the obvious choice.”
