Casa GrijalvaTampico Tamaulipas, Mexico
Casa Grijalva is a government building in Mexico that features a visually mesmerizing exterior unlike any other, thanks to Color Kinetics’ intelligent LED lighting technology. Once dismissed as too dim for primetime, LEDs light this grand building in its entirety, from top to bottom.
To wash the exterior façade with saturated, uniform color, 18 ColorBlast® 12 units were mounted to approximately three-foot (one-meter) high pedestals and installed four feet (1.2 meters) from the building in four-foot (1.2 meter) intervals. The high-performance units bathe the façade with deep colors and gradual, color changing sequences that accompany various events and holidays. More than 5,150 linear feet (1,570 meters) of iColor® Fresco highlights the building’s architectural railings. The rugged units are mounted in a continuous run and are controllable in one-foot (30.5 cm) increments, which allows for seamless streams of intricately designed effects. For example, a gradual rainbow effect may chase around the railing, while another effect features the green, white and red colors of the Mexican flag.
All lighting effects were easily programmed with ColorPlay® authoring software and controlled by iPlayer® 2 with a Controller Keypad interface. A total of eight light shows are stored and easily triggered by the push of a button.
With its advanced solid-state lighting system in place, Casa Grijalva greets visitors with an ever-changing presence that celebrates the colorful culture of Mexico.
