33 Restaurant & LoungeBoston, MA
33 Restaurant & Lounge stands out amidst Boston's Back Bay dining scene with a unique French-meets-Italian menu and sleek, sensory interior design. Integral to the setting is the dynamic, mood-inducing illumination provided by Color Kinetics.
Architectural designers Chris Bardt and Kyna Leski of 3SIXO created a space in which light and reflection are the driving elements, highlighted by a glowing central staircase that merges into a color-shifting, 60- foot bar, forming 120 linear feet of kinetic illumination through the restaurant's center. The bar's fiberglass panels are lit internally by iColor® Cove systems, which are ideally suited for bringing colored accents to tight or concealed spaces - a key requirement for the designers. These same panels line the staircase walls leading to the downstairs lounge, creating a unique, color-morphing experience as patrons pass through. Once downstairs, the luminous bar extends into the intimate lounge setting to add vibrant color to the otherwise dark surroundings. Several taller, floor-to-ceiling panels are illuminated by C-75 systems to saturate the larger spaces with color.
According to restaurant owner Greg Den Herder, additional benefits of the LED lighting to the restaurant setting are its cost efficiency and long source life. Since the lighting requires little or no maintenance, and there are no bulbs to replace, the systems can be installed in concealed or hard to reach spaces.
All of the Color Kinetics® systems are programmed with ColorPlay® authoring software to create a continuous, unifying element throughout the space. Up to eight customized lighting effects can be stored and played using iPlayer® 2 and the simple Controller Keypad interface.
